Established in 1649 as an ironworks in a small Finnish village of the same name, Fiskars has grown to become a leading global supplier of consumer products. With groundbreaking innovations, a natural approach, unparalleled functionality, ergonomics and the right balance between complexity and simplicity, the designers won over the jury for the Red Dot Award: Product Design a number of times. This development sees Fiskars join the ranks of Ferrari, Apple and Adidas to enter the Hall of Fame established in 1988.

To bring both the tradition and innovation together, the Fiskars Design Team led by Petteri Masalin pursues an integrated design process. This involves being mindful of customers and the market, functionality and user friendliness, technology and material without losing sight of where the company comes from and the brand’s tradition.

From 23 June 2020 to 24 January 2021, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen will present the special exhibition “Onnellisuus – designed by Fiskars”.This exhibition designed by Fiskars itself will show how the designers manage to make the everyday extraordinary. This attitude is also reflected in Fiskars’ choice of exhibition title, “Onnellisuus”, the Finnish word for happiness.
Flavio Manzoni, Senior Vice President Design at Ferrari, spoke with Prof. Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award, about his design philosophy, his management style and the progression of Italian design. The talk was moderated by Michael Thomson from Design Connect London.
