Canadian Wood celebrates World Wood Day 2024 with architectural community in Mumbai

Canadian Wood officially known as Forestry Innovation Consulting India Pvt Ltd (FII India) is the British Columbia (B.C.) provincial government’s crown corporation. The distinguished company celebrated World Wood Day on 22nd March, 2024 with a grand event held at the impressive JIO World Convention Centre in Mumbai. Canadian Wood intended to raise awareness of the importance of wood as a sustainable building material in modern architecture and design. The event facilitated the get-together of honoured industry professionals, interior designers, and architects to celebrate the versatility of wood and engage in insightful discussions. An enlightening panel discussion was organised on the topic ‘Wood as a Long-Term Sustainable Material’. The discussion featured respected keynote speakers and prominent panelists from the architecture and interior design community.

Riveting discussions held on World Wood Day 2024

The event started with an inaugural address delivered by Pranesh Chibber, Country Director, Canadian Wood. He set the tone for the discussions and activities and was followed by Dr. Jimmy Thomas from Canadian Wood who spoke on the topic ‘Wood Innovations’. He shed light on the latest innovations and advancements in wood applications and technology and discussed in detail the company’s devotion to sustainable sourcing and manufacturing of wood. Mahesh Nilakh, Founder of Wiseart Design studio LLP and Pravir Sethi, Founder of Studio Hinge also enriched the discussion with their valuable insights during the event.

The World Wood Day event was concluded by a thought provoking panel discussion moderated by Ar. Ketan Jawedekar from Studio K-7. The panel comprised of esteemed professionals from diverse architectural backgrounds including: Pranesh Chhibber representing Canadian Wood; Ar. Saleem Bhatri, CEPT; Rajeev Mishra, JJ College of Architecture; Ar. Qutub Mandivala, MQA Architects; Ar. Gautam Bhasin, Inhabit Group; Ar. Prashant Sutaria, PSA Architects; and Raju Paleja, Naman Instore.

The discussion laid emphasis on the fact that wood’s inherent biodegradability, low carbon footprint and renewability makes it a favoured choice in modern construction. In addition, responsible sourcing and manufacturing of wood makes it a foundation of sustainable design. Integrating wood as a building material not only promotes sustainability but also contributes to a more resilient future.
