As lifestyles continue to change, international brands like Duravit are playing a key role in redefining luxury and comfort. In this exclusive interview with BuildingandInteriors, Sahyog Pandita, Managing Director – India and SAARC, Duravit India, shares insights into Duravit’s journey in India, their distribution reach, key focus areas, exciting new launches, and how the brand continues to stay ahead of global competition.
B&I: Duravit has been in India for nearly 2 decades. How do you see the Indian bathrooms, sanitaryware and wellness market from Duravit’s perspective?
Sahyog Pandita: India’s bathroom and wellness market has evolved significantly over the last two decades, shifting from functionality to lifestyle and wellness. Customers today seek premium designs, quality, and sustainable solutions. As a 208-year-old brand, Duravit brings unmatched heritage, innovation, and international design expertise to meet these aspirations. We see strong growth potential across metros and emerging cities. Moreover, we are well-positioned to lead the next phase of personalization, digitalization, and sustainability in India.
B&I: Tell us about your distribution network numbers across India. What are your focus products and regions over the next 1 year?
Sahyog Pandita: Duravit has a strong direct dealer network of over 120 dealers across India, supported by our presence in key metros and growing cities. Over the next year, we will focus on working closely with these dealers to strengthen our reach. Duravit’s key focus is on designer luxury sanitaryware, faucets, and wellness solutions. Therefore, our products have been crafted by world-acclaimed international designers, meeting the rising demand for premium and lifestyle-driven bathrooms in India.
B&I: India is attracting more and more international players in the bathroom space. What would you say to your customers in India when they compare Duravit to other international brands?
Sahyog Pandita: Duravit stands apart with a legacy of over 208 years, combining German engineering, cutting-edge innovation, and collaborations with some of the world’s most acclaimed designers. Our products are not just about functionality — they reflect timeless design, sustainability, and luxury. While many international brands offer quality, Duravit offers an unmatched blend of quality, heritage, design leadership, and a commitment to creating wellness spaces that truly elevate lifestyles. Our focus is always on delivering long-term value, not just selling a product.
“Duravit is not just a brand you buy — it’s a legacy you live.”
B&I: How do you see the role of Architects and Interior Designers in your business plans? What kind of solutions would you look at for this community?
Sahyog Pandita: Architects and interior designers play a pivotal role in our business strategy. They are not just specifiers; they are partners in shaping how customers experience bathrooms as personal wellness spaces. Their influence in recommending premium, design-led solutions aligns perfectly with Duravit’s core strengths — heritage, innovation, and designer collaborations.
For this community, Duravit offers a curated portfolio of designer luxury sanitaryware, furniture, wellness solutions like bathtubs, and complete bathroom ranges crafted by world-renowned designers. Moreover, our focus is to provide them with timeless, sustainable, and technologically advanced products that help bring their creative visions to life, while adding true value to their projects.
“We see every architect and designer as a storyteller — and Duravit provides the canvas for their vision.”
B&I: Builders and developers have been emerging as an important volume buyer in the premium home improvement space. What kind of business do you envisage with them in the next 1-2 years?
Sahyog Pandita: Builders and developers are key growth drivers in the premium bathroom space, and Duravit is already working closely with leading developers across India on luxury residential and hospitality projects. Over the next 1-2 years, we aim to strengthen these partnerships further by offering complete bathroom solutions that blend iconic design, smart technology, and sustainability. Our wide portfolio enables us to support developers from the planning stage. Furthermore, we offer value-engineered solutions without compromising on luxury or brand prestige.
B&I: You have expanded your bathroom fittings range in India. How is it faring?
Sahyog Pandita: Expanding our bathroom fittings range in India was a strategic move to offer complete bathroom solutions under the Duravit brand. The response has been very encouraging, with growing acceptance among architects, designers, dealers, and developers who appreciate the design synergy, quality, and reliability we bring. Our fittings business is steadily gaining momentum. Therefore, we are confident that with continued focus on premium design, innovation, and service, it will become a strong pillar of Duravit’s growth in India.
B&I: What is your take on the various home improvement stores coming up across India? These stores are being seen as a threat by the conventional traders. What is your call on this?
Sahyog Pandita: Home improvement stores reflect the shift toward experience-driven retail, and we see them as an opportunity to enhance brand visibility and reach. Conventional traders continue to be key partners for us. We believe that with the right focus on customer engagement and service, both channels can thrive. At Duravit, we believe in adapting to market changes while staying committed to our premium positioning across all platforms.
“Evolving markets don’t replace strong partners — they create new opportunities to grow together.”
B&I: We saw many new bathroom solutions from Duravit at the recently concluded ISH in Frankfurt. What are some of the important introductions from those ranges we can see in India?
Sahyog Pandita: At ISH 2025 in Frankfurt, Duravit unveiled several exciting innovative bathroom solutions that reflect our commitment to design, wellness, and sustainability. Among the standout introductions was the Balcoon collection by Patricia Urquiola. It offers a minimalist yet expressive design language. We also showcased advancements in our SensoWash® shower-toilet range, enhancing hygiene, comfort, and user experience.
Another major highlight was the ME by Starck Hero Edition wall-mounted toilet. It blends Philippe Starck’s iconic design with advanced technology for maximum hygiene, comfort, and efficiency. Featuring the powerful DuraFlush rotational flush, a rimless bowl with a clean sloping interior, and the antibacterial DuraShield® glaze, it ensures deep cleaning with minimal water use. The ergonomic seat, quiet flush, and easy top installation with DuraFix® Pro make it a smart, sustainable choice.
DuraShield® eliminates 99.99% of bacteria and is easy to clean. Its revolutionary 2-in-1 protective glaze has an incredibly smooth, almost pore-free surface that prevents dirt and limescale buildup. Furthermore, the positively charged metal ions create an invisible shield to neutralize bacteria within 24 hours.
Duravit is excited to introduce these cutting-edge bathroom fittings and sanitaryware to the Indian market in the coming months. These innovative products cater to the evolving demand for premium, design-driven, and sustainable bathroom solutions.
