Celebrating a century of comfort living: STIEBEL ELTRON marks 100 years in business

The beginning of a success story: The “ELTRON” company is founded on 5th May 1924 by Dr. Theodor Stiebel in Berlin, Germany. In his backyard workshop in Berlin, he invents and produces the immersion heater, thus opening the first chapter of STIEBEL ELTRON’s successful company history. This was just the beginning: in the 1970s, STIEBEL ELTRON started producing heat pumps and solar collectors, establishing itself as a pioneer in the field of renewable energies.

Dr. Theodor Stiebel’s inventions were also proof of his vision, as 100 years ago, he already recognized the potential of electricity as a universal form of energy. Today, in the age of renewable energies, this insight is more forward-looking than ever.

Stiebel Eltron has also been an active player in India for over 15 years. Its range spans heat pumps, tankless water heaters/ instant water heaters, room heating solutions, ventilation systems (both centralized and decentralized), and water purification.

STIEBEL ELTRON’s products are very relevant in the India of today. In an era where we talk of renewable energy, sustainability, energy efficiency, hygiene, health, technology in the living environment, and more, the company ticks all the right boxes. Its products are available at leading bathroom and sanitaryware stores across India. Additionally, STIEBEL ELTRON actively works with architects, plumbing consultants, homeowners, commercial establishments, and retailers with the aim of providing high-quality solutions. With this important milestone of completing 100 years in business globally, STIEBEL ELTRON’s India subsidiary has aggressive growth plans for this market.

Husain Quettawalla, Executive Director and Board Member Stiebel Eltron India

“STIEBEL ELTRON has not only survived but thrived over the last 100 years due to its leadership and innovation in technologies such as heating, cooling, ventilation, and hot water. We have been in India for over 15 years as a brand but only perceived as a hot water company. In line with our global vision, at STIEBEL ELTRON India, we are focused on diversifying our portfolio and enhancing our image as a home comfort and renewables company. We are laying the foundations for long-term and sustainable growth in this most exciting growth market in the world and have just begun!”

Evolution and innovation: 100 Years of milestones for STIEBEL ELTRON

The 100-year timeline of STIEBEL ELTRON dates back to 1924 when the company ‘ELTRON’ was founded in Bedin, Germany. Dr Theodor Stiebel started manufacturing the coil immersion he invented. In 1949, the company developed and started manufacturing its first hydraulic instant water heater. It was the year 1976 when STIEBEL ELTRON, as one of the first manufacturers of heat pumps, began its development and production. Even today, close to 5 decades later, the company is a technology leader in heat pumps. In 1987, the company revolutionised the water heating market when it introduced the world’s 1st fully electronic instantaneous water heater (DHE).

In 1999, STIEBEL ELTRON introduced the LWZ 303 – its 1st product that combined all building services, such as ventilation, central heating, and domestic hot water (DHW) in a single product. Later, in 2007, it opened the largest and the most modern heat pump manufacturing plant in Europe. Combining new-age technology in its products, in 2015, STIEBEL ELTRON launched the DHE Connect – the 1st instantaneous water heater with WLAN and Bluetooth. That same year, at STIEBEL ELTRON’s headquarters in Holzminden, the company opened the award-winning, international training facility called the Energy Campus.

Recent innovations in the company’s product portfolio

Other innovations and highlights of the STIEBEL ELTRON’s journey include:

  • Entering the ventilation market with its decentralised ventilation units for the retrofitting market (2017).

  • Advancements in heat pump technology for every heat distribution system with up to 75°C flow temperature (2020).
  • Cutting-edge solutions during the pandemic with its automatic ventilation with heat recovery for retrofitting in classrooms and kindergartens – for consistently fresh and healthy air (2021).

Today, with its strong 6000-employee strength worldwide, STIEBEL ELTRON has its eyes clearly set on electricity-based and highly efficient green tech solutions that consistently provide its customers with added convenience and benefits. The company’s future looks promising and sustainable.
