The Hansgrohe Group embraces recycling and other environmentally friendly practices and standards across various operations. In collaboration with the WaterTech company Hydraloop, Hansgrohe showcased a gray water recycling system at the ISH trade show in Frankfurt. The two companies are researching solutions for heat recovery from shower waste water and a closed-loop shower, altering their product packaging to paper alternatives and recycling galvanised plastics in shower head production. Hansgrohe Group celebrated Global Recycling Day on March 18, 2025. The Hansgrohe Group, an innovation and marketing accelerator, is moving closer to a sustainable circular economy with new water, packaging, and plastics solutions.
Hansgrohe’s collaboration with Hydraloop for gray water recycling
At the ISH 2025 trade show, Hansgrohe displays a cutting-edge gray water recycling system in partnership with the Dutch WaterTech company Hydraloop, meeting the highest standards. The Hydraloop systems effectively handle gray water from air conditioners, washing machines, and showers. For non-drinking water-related activities like garden irrigation and toilet flushing, the small device generates high-quality recycled water. Commercial, public, or semi-public structures like hotels, government buildings, or office complexes are particularly suited. Furthermore, the need for certified, sustainable construction is becoming more common in various building areas.
Global Recycling Day 2025: Shower heat recovery and other sustainable solutions

Hansgrohe is designing advanced and affordable shower heat recovery technologies. This includes shower and bathroom refurbishment technologies and systems that are easy to retrofit. The working principle is similar to that of a heat exchanger.
Showers in a closed loop: Part of Hansgrohe Global Recycling Day 2025 developments
The Hansgrohe InnoLab team is researching another product that seeks to benefit from the possibilities of circular water consumption. The circular shower concept involves cleaning, reheating, and reusing old shower water in a cycle. Although many countries currently do not require laws for purified water in showers, this could change in the future due to the shortage of fresh water.
Switching to paper packaging
Hansgrohe will switch all new product packaging worldwide to paper alternatives by the end of 2025. Cardboard containers minimise plastic waste and are completely recyclable. Compact wrapping and storage options improve logistics and transportation.
Recycling of galvanised plastics
Since mid-2024, Hansgrohe has been running a globally unique chrome-plated plastic system and component recycling machine at the Offenburg/Elgersweier production site to meet high standards. Hansgrohe releases ABS polymers from their chromium layer and repurposes them through electro-hydraulic shredding followed by magnetic separation. By doing this, they can recycle almost 100 tons of plastic annually to create one million new handheld showers. For example, the Pulsify Planet Edition hand-held shower has won multiple awards and is made mostly of recycled plastic. The process produces novel recycled materials that are 99.8% pure and made without chemicals or other harmful materials.
On Global Recycling Day 2025, Hans Jürgen Kalmbach, Chairman of the Executive Board, Hansgrohe SE, said-
In WaterTech, they find it particularly difficult to save more water and energy. The intent is to ensure that the customers have a relaxed and peaceful experience in their routine habits without worrying about the environment.
