Forestry Innovation Consulting India Pvt. Ltd. (FII India), also known as Canadian Wood, collaborates with regional designers and manufacturers to build relationships with them and promote British Columbian wood species. These species act as a sustainable substitute for traditional teak wood. In 2020, FII India began working with Bramola Furniture, a Delhi-based high-end furniture company. Their handcrafted designs are exceptional examples of Bengali Batali art. The furniture brand specializes in distressed finishes with an array of colour combinations. They collaborated to build a retirement home and wellness project called Eden Senior Living & Wellness located in Dehradun. The project is furnished using distressed spruce-pine-fir.

While the trend of senior living facilities is relatively new, the promotors believe that it is a pressing need. This retirement home project lays a special focus on holistic care and wellness. Furthermore, the project is ideal for seniors looking to escape the chaotic life of big cities and move to a more peaceful location. The location of the project becomes ideal because of its peaceful environment and its connection to basic facilities and social life. Therefore, the residents can enjoy a slow-paced routine with easy access to recreational opportunities.

About Eden Senior Living & Wellness

The retirement home, set to be completed in December 2022, will consist of two ten-story buildings housing a total of 107 apartments in Dehradun. The project finds its inspiration from the European notions of how senior citizens should live. Therefore, Bramola introduced furniture in Neo-Classical and Scandinavian styles. The furniture comes in distressed finishes to implement the advanced interior design ideas of Bramola. Furthermore, instead of using local Sheesham or non-PEFC-certified timber, the project enhanced its sustainability by going for PEFC-certified sustainable timber from British Columbia, Canada.

Abraxas Lifestyle is an interior design firm run by a creative team of professionals with impressive skills and expertise. The team has a combined experience of over 30 years in the industry. The project designers ordered a sample of spruce-pine-fir from Bramola Furniture to assess its aesthetic value. After their assessment, the designers decided to incorporate it in a distressed look. The remarkable strength-to-weight ratio of the wood also swayed their decision.

The showcase unit of Eden Senior Living & Wellness came fully furnished with spruce-pine-fir. The unit showcased beds, bookcases, wardrobes, side tables, and dining tables. After the showcase, Bramola Furniture received impressive feedback and people have already begun placing orders. These days designers, architects, and clients prefer to use building materials that are both attractive and ecological. Clients of both Abraxas Lifestyle and Bramola Furniture have shown interest in using FII products in their future undertakings.

The collaboration

FII has the responsibility to promote the five wood species from British Columbia in the Indian market. Therefore, it provided technical support and direction to the designers throughout the project. Bramola Furniture recommended spruce-pine-fir as a sustainable and affordable alternative to teak wood for this senior living and wellness project. The company became aware of the beneficial properties of Canadian Wood products after their trial of the same. This retirement home is a great example of how Canadian Wood promotes a sustainable lifestyle with its aesthetic design concepts.
