Villeroy & Boch celebrates 275th company anniversary
Villeroy & Boch has been in business for 275 years now. Almost no other premium brand with a global reputation can boast a comparable history and long-term success. From a small craft business that was founded in 1748, Villeroy & Boch has evolved into an international group. It has witnessed a great evolution from being a production-focused ceramicist to a comprehensive lifestyle provider. Today, the European brand shapes and designs the homes of their clients all over the world using their premium products.
Villeroy & Boch – Company History
275 years of Villeroy & Boch have demonstrated a unique company history. The brand constantly proves itself in the challenges of time. Challenges from political and societal changes, changes in market conditions, and technological innovations. Though new procedures, material formulations, colours, and shapes have gained popularity, ceramic, a long-lasting natural product, continues to be the company’s focus.
When Francois Boch and Nicholas Villeroy joined forces in 1836, they had a regional focus. However, over the course of the business’s history, Villeroy & Boch expanded to become a global player. The initial products were basic home essentials like pots and bowls. Today, after 275 years of Villeroy & Boch, the brand offers a wide range of products to design holistically styled spaces and reflect its clients’ global attitudes towards life. Today, Villeroy & Boch is present in 125 countries including India. The company has 6,400 workers from 81 different countries, which reflects internationality and diversity in its workforce.
“Innovative and demand-driven, both offline as well as online, Villeroy & Boch as a brand is represented with its products and services everywhere our customers are today”, says Frank Göring, who has been managing the globally operating public company as CEO since 2007. The management has been driven to constantly evolve the company to keep up with the times since its inception. Villeroy & Boch is continually reinventing itself, reshaping the market, and leading the industry. The company is focused on quality and the market, as well as on early industrialization and digital orientation.
275 Years Creating Homes
275 years of Villeroy & Boch is also 275 years of home. Since 1748, the company has been making premium quality porcelain. Moreover, it has not only significantly influenced the democratisation of the bathroom but also the home culture. Combined with an undeniable sense for a design that is both ground-breaking and timeless and always has the charm of a classic. The bathroom is no longer just a sanitary space. It has evolved into a tranquil haven. In the past, the brand was entirely about crockery sets. However, today it offers a wide range of products. These products not only enhance the beauty of the table setting but also the entire home with gift items and living accessories.
According to Frank Göring, “Villeroy & Boch, at an early stage, realised the value of the home to people and therefore shaped the vision that we are pursuing today: making houses into homes”. You feel at home wherever Villeroy & Boch is, whether it’s inside your own four walls or on a trip around the world.
The 2023 anniversary year
“275 years of Villeroy & Boch, that is heritage and future at the same time”, emphasises Frank Göring. “We are proud of this special company anniversary and look forward to celebrating it together with our employees, customers, and partners worldwide and to continuing to write our success story”.
During the anniversary year, both company divisions will present very special product highlights. Bathroom & Wellness is launching “Hommage to Hommage,” a new iteration of the popular bathroom collection, which features traditional Victorian forms in the current colour “Nero.” In the kitchen, two well-known classics come together: the white butler sink and an adaptation of the well-known alt-Luxembourg design by designer Gesa Hansen. Dining & Lifestyle is introducing a brand-new La Boule for the anniversary. A successful interpretation of Helen von Boch’s “Die Kugel” [The Sphere] from the 1970s was created using a reimagining of the traditional copperplate decor Paradiso. A spectacular piece for the anniversary that is only available in a limited edition.
These 275 years of Villeroy & Boch mean more than just products and innovations. It also means people and emotions that are closely associated with the company. The company’s history is adorned with famous people, including artists like Helmut Newton and design legends like Luigi Colani. On the occasion of its 275th anniversary, the European brand is revealing some fascinating, amusing, and surprising insights behind the scenes of business and its history in “275 stories”.
So, be a part of this great celebration as Villeroy & Boch embarks on a new journey from 1748 to the present day, to celebrate “275 Years Creating Homes.”
