FII, the crown agency of the British Columbia (B.C.) government, also known as Canadian Wood, participated in DelhiWood expo 2023, an international trade fair for the wood and woodworking industries, to promote innovative wood products and raise awareness regarding certified wood from sustainably managed forests of B.C. Canada.
Canadian Wood displayed innovative wood products made from its five unique species, highlighting their qualities and distinction. The emphasis, however, was given to multiple aspects including reman applications, which required the use of exceptional creativity and design, and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques. Moreover, the products showcased at the Canadian Wood booth also illustrated FII’s collaborative work with other organisations in the woodworking industry, such as tools, machinery, coatings and adhesives, etc., in addition to the wood product manufacturers they work with.
The event took place at IMEL in Greater Noida, Delhi – NCR. The five unique Canadian wood species displayed were Western Hemlock, Douglas Fir, Yellow Cedar, Western Red Cedar, and SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir) in a diverse range of trendy and innovative wood products, and as lumber and swatches in various finishes and shades throughout the event from March 2nd to March 5th, 2023.
Nuremberg Messe’s DelhiWood is one of India’s most reputed events for woodworking and allied industries, attracting designers, architects, manufacturers, and contractors from India and around the world. The goal of Canadian Wood’s participation was to spread awareness about British Columbia as a long-term credible source of certified wood for innovative products in India, as well as its five distinct species, their attributes, and use cases in both reman and structural applications. Additionally, this time, FII’s booth featured products from Bramola (Faridabad) and Artius (Gurugram).
On showcasing innovative wood products at DelhiWood expo 2023, Country Director of Canadian Wood, Mr. Pranesh Chhibber said-
“We have been educating professionals in the woodworking industry through various platforms including seminars/webinars, training workshops, etc., sharing knowledge and best practices. We have often collaborated with Private and Public institutions such as Furniture Fittings and Skill Council (FFSC), etc. to develop and enhance local skill sets while promoting sustainability in the woodworking sector.”
Canadian Wood also supported a conference on Wood and Architectural Design held on 3rd March. Mr. Pranesh Chhibber spoke on the topic, ‘Wood Construction: An Opportunity for a Sustainable Future”. This conference had the attendance of eminent architects and manufacturers. Canadian wood comes as ready-to-use lumber (sawn timber) after correct grading, proper seasoning, and consistent sizing. This results in avoiding the time, energy, and money wasted on sorting the wood upon receipt. Its five distinct species are excellent and highly preferred for a variety of uses. The main application areas include innovative wood products for outdoor, indoor, reman, and structural applications.
Furthermore, Canadian Wood’s reasonably skilled techno-commercial staff provides handholding and technical assistance to manufacturers and contractors. The staff works with architects and design professionals from the early stages of their projects. They advise them regarding the most suitable species and grades for their innovative products and projects. In addition, they assist them in their sourcing.
